Welcome to our Child, Adolescent Trauma Service (CATS).

Central West Women’s Health Centre offers a Child, Adolescent Trauma Service (CATS)

The Child, Adolescent Trauma Service provides assistance to children and adolescents (under 18 years of age) living in the Bathurst local government area who have been affected by abuse, including physical, emotional, mental, sexual abuse, and domestic and family violence.  The service also provides assistance for children and adolescents who have been affected by significant neglect, are at ‘risk of significant harm’ or are in ‘out of home care’ (to address issues which led to placement of care).

This service also works with the parents, carers, families of the above mentioned children and adults. These programs help parents and carers to develop appropriate skills for responding to challenging behaviours and emotional issues. Support and referral to appropriate services are available to enable families access to any required specialist assistance.

However, the CAT service is not suitable for children and adolescents experiencing significant mental health issues such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or psychosis.

The Child, Adolescent Trauma Service Counsellor meets with the parents/carers prior to commencement of sessions to enable a big picture of what is required for the best possible outcome for the client. It is helpful for parents to bring copies of any relevant Court Orders, Apprehended Violence Orders or reports to the initial meeting. A referral is not required and appointments are welcomed.

The service is free of charge, however if possible and a donation is appropriate, this is gratefully accepted.
